So that’s it. Eighteen hours of mechanical torture across city, country and track in an army of 11 cars totalling 4,791bhp. And, as you’ll know if you’ve got a copy of Top Gear magazine, no winner.
Which is why we thought we’d give you – the lovely readers of TopGear.com – the chance to make up our minds for us. Remember, it wasn’t just the car that made your adrenal glands work hardest, but the one you could honestly live with for a year.
And we have a winner. Just. Out of nearly 10,000 votes it’s the Aston V12 Vantage that clinches it, just ahead of the snarling Lambo SV.
Or in other words, the car Jeremy drove at the end of the series ahead of the one Richard tested at the beginning.
But before the vote-rigging accusations start flying, a thought for you to ponder. I mentioned in my blog last week a vague consensus among the TG testers that took part in the showdown. A shared feeling even Stig didn’t have much of an argument with. Audi R8 V10. But let’s keep that between us.
Two things left to say, then – first, if you haven’t read the full TG GP ’09 story in Top Gear magazine, it’s the September issue you want, on sale now.
And second, keep an eye out for the October issue on sale September 9 – we’ll be publishing the results of this poll and your best comments left on the TG GP ’09 blogs.

look, Everyone can clearly see that all of the cars a different in their own way and none of them didn’t have their natural rivals to go up against. I’m sure that they would win in that section against their rivals, but when they are all together you have to really look at what car gives you the biggest laugh. So obviously it’s between the Aston and Lamborghini, but they aren’t very reliable. What we need to look for is a car that covers all sections, whih clearly is the Audi R8.

@Mikeado (27): I agree. Some people here aren’t really that interested in cars, so they look at the contenders and as soon as thay see ‘Aston Martin’ they vote for it because it’s British. Don’t get me wrong i love the Aston, but this was the clear winner from the start. If this poll was being hosted in italy you’d find most people voting for the Ferrari or the Lambo. The same goes for germany too who would vote for the Audi. It’s way too predictable and predictability is boring.
If there was no British-built cars in the poll then it would be much less predictable and probably more accurate as to what people actually like instead of people just voting for cars which are built in the same country as they were born in.
Maybe another poll all on hot hatches? It’s a popular type of car and i can’t think of many if any which are british, this means less people just voting aimlessly for a car built in Britain rather than voting for the car they actually like best.

I think the Aston is a worthy winner, though I voted for the RS. I think it would be more practical for a year’s use, plus it’s my favourite car of all time, but the Aston is an excellent car too.

Now I won’t even begin to pretend I have driven any of the above but I voted for the Aston because its the one of best looking, best sounding cars ever made. I would imagine it is just about practical enough to live with every day too, something the McMerc and Lambo would not be brilliant at. Which is what this poll was asking in the first place.

I think it’s pretty darn hard to say which of these is the best. I haven’t driven any of them and even been inside of just two of them. The driving experience should be the one to matter with looks coming close second. If judgeing by only image lambo and merc should be pretty awesome.

As a recent discoverer of TG and a now confirmed petrolhead who has been well and truly crunched by the credit crisis, I have never had the opportunity to drive any of the super cars. Let’s face it, those of us trapped amongst the poor, downtrodden, starving, millions of Gordon Brown’s ‘Great’ Britain can only dream of such things!

I think that R8 should have won, it really is the perfect car, balanced in every way. Aston, well not really a fan of Aston. Aston is going the Porsche way, I mean, they all look pretty much the same for the past few year as well, only exception being that they actually are pretty, but getting bored now. And what’s the point putting a V12 in that small car, only thing you are getting from that are huge fuel bills. All have their good and bad points, but if I had a choice it would be the Audi, the concept 3 yrs ago stoll my heart from the 1st time I saw it. The 911s a good all rounder but it doesnt stand a chance in my eyes.

The Aston won because is the best of British and it is by far the most practical. Its got a large boot, a V12 engine, 2 seats and one of the greatest sounding engines ever.
