Alfa’s YouTube

Posted by Jamie Hibbard at 2:44 pm on Thursday July 23, 2009

There’s this thing called YouTube right, that’s on the internets or something, and what it does is show, like, video clips of stuff. Apparently, companies can use it as some kind of marketing tool. It’s well clever and that, so Alfa Romeo has set up its own channel:

The only problem is, Alfa doesn’t seem to have realised that for it to have any viability in creating some kind of viral advertising campaign, it needs to have something good on there to show people.

This athletics-people-drive-some-not-very-exciting-cars-on-a-grey-day-at-Silverstone really isn’t fitting the bill. It’s all a bit rubbish, isn’t it?

Ferrari, on the other hand, is running an ad for its crap looking new watch. Yours, for about four hundred quid:

They don’t even show the people going around the track. I don’t really want to listen to people who clearly don’t care about cars. I mean, I could drive lots faster than those people can run, why run?

I hated the Ferrari advert more because it was advertising something stupid. At least the Alfa commercial was advertising a car.

That Alfa video was so dull! They clearly have some way to go on viral advertising.

Nice watch Ferrari, but will it break down or perhaps lose traction under acceleration?

oh wow there going so fast………………..fo the type of
hair dresser that will drive that car
IMO the cars ugly and rather rubbish and alfa knows it thats why they got these people to do this rather than paying someone who could drive to do it

    What’s the problem with that?
I will never be able to drive fast as a professional racer can do. MAybe I can drive fast as the people shown on the video… so their comments can be interesting…
And Mito is not so bad… compared to its price…maybe if the Mito was an Audi, people would sell their home to buy one…

I guess I am a boring shit since I bought a Hyundai Matrix 1.5 CRDi VGT.

It’s those letters VGT that are important that stand for ‘Variable Geometry Turbine’ I believe? Something that can start off as a small turbine effectively and get up speed quickly then become a bigger turbine delivering more boost once its there.

All I know is for a 1500 cc Diesel engine to deliver 110 Horse Power, yet still give 18Km/liter fuel consumption with 4 adults plus luggage and the aircon on, its pretty good.

I paid Php695,000 for this brand new 4 years ago.

The same engine is now in the GETZ!

Don’t know if they offer this combination in the UK, but if they do, TopGear should have tested it?

    Engine
Type 1.5 CRDi Turbo Intercooler with Variable Geometry Turbine (VGT)
    Fuel Type Diesel
    Displacement (cc) 1493
    Bore & Stroke (mm) 75 x 84.5
    Compression Ratio 17.8:1
    Max Power (ps/rpm) 110 /4000
    Max Torque (kg-m/rpm) 24.5 /1900-2750
    Cylinder Block Iron
    Cylinder Head Aluminium
Fuel System Common Rail Direct Injection
Valve System DOHC 16-Valve Hydraulic Lash Adjuster (HLA)
    Fuel Tank Capacity (L) 55

That was rubbish, what do athletes know about cars anyway. Originally i liked the look of the Mito but then i found outs its a punto in disguise so i wont be buying one. unless they bring out the 250bhp hot version!

And to number 10. …. Mate its a hyundai, and a diesel at that, you really dont want other people to know you own one :-)

I thought Alfa Romeo was an italian company? That means their adverts should be nothing short of an 8C violently powersliding along the scraggy edge of a mountain road, with the rear wheels just kicking rocks off the edge into the canyon below. Not some boring track day footage.

Even bad publicity is good publicity. Face it, apart from the scirocco and mini, only all alfas are wheels you’d like to be seen in. Bar Porsche’s, Ferrari’s and GTRs that most folks simply cannot reasonably afford. I’d say Alfa is the only company consistently delivering wheels designed to make your blood freeze. And yes, BBC, stop this complete rubbish with banning TG vids outside the UK: it’s so prehistoric…

@6 Maybe it’s got KERS… Whenever you have a train to catch, push the button and it’ll run fast. So you start to hurry and you might still catch it! Nice gadget…

Isn’t a problem, Alfa MiTo is a good car.

It’s not the stuff of dreams, though, is it?
They say (they being TG) that any true petrolhead has to have had at least one Alfa. In that case, count me out. The Giuliettas and GTV’s of old, well yes, of course. But the rest? No. Period. Which is what they resemble.

tak, yes this ad is a tad short of rocking one’s imagination straight into an alfa, no doubt about that.. and yes yes yes the MiTo is very very flimsey:D.. the interrior design is what gives it away as an alfa the rest of it, racing red or not, is a bit shite.. but there have been many great alfas since the giu and the gtv.. the spider, 33, 75, 164, 155(epic), the 156..yes the design was in the eye of the beholder but the drive was always sensational..as long as it lasted… have you tryed ? If not, you’re simply missing out.. nothing comes close… I had a 156, 1.6 ts as a second car.. low insurance etc.. and what a drivek, what a sound, what feel.. my 330ci is without a doubt a better car but the feeling.. not even close…

@dwhittall: Why are you talking about your Hyundai on a blog page all about Alfa on Youtube? And why buy a Hyundai Matrix anyway? It’s rubbish! If you brought a top-spec version and specced it up to the max, it would cost £15,000! Why? You could buy a Renaultsport Clio for a few hundred pounds more. Or if you want an MPV what’s wrong with the new C3 Picasso? Now that’s a good MPV.

@1+5=6: Well, alright. I take back my words for the 33 mkI, 155 and 156 (especially the 5-door, drool…). But those were all FWD, which I just don’t like in anything sporty. With the 75 I couldn’t ever overcome its cheap ’80’s looks.
Now, if a 6 ever turned out to be 9… Remember that 155 DTM?

tak..unforgettable :D ..the fwd doesn’t make a rats ass of a difference..unless you’re trying to murder the car and kill yourself in the process it’ll never haunt you.. not at the power to weight ratios alfas tend to come with…
the 75 had cheap 80’s looks because it was a cheap 80’s car.. and alfa were somewhat broke while developing it..the drive however was still sublime.

I love bmw, I drive one now and for some inexplicable reason i would not change it for any present alfa but it feels heavy, clumsy and dull next to any alfa I’ve ever driven and i think I’ve had a go in almost everything from the early 80’s till now… like the comparison is like, and i feel as though I’m stabbing beloved in the back, the titanic vs to a speed dingy..thingy..

Of course the MiTo has the Punto chassis, but what makes you think it’s a bad one? Actually it’s quite a good platform. No fancy suspension scheme, but it drives nicely. It’s no Mini, but that’s one of a kind car.
