It’s Thursday afternoon and it’s time for a fight. This is a good one, too: F-18 Hornet versus Corvette ZR-1.
American mag MotorTrend has got the two together and made a video, much like Hammond’s spirited attempt to down a jet fighter using nothing but a TVR 350C.
It’s long old vid, about 19 minutes in total. So let’s save you the bother – the proper action starts about eight minutes in. Flick to it, then ignore the chest-thumping Americanisms and stick with the rest. There’s some cool on-board stuff that shows how a jet can mangle your guts at nearly twice the speed of sound.
The ZR-1 does a similar job too, as Clarkson found out in the States recently…
Give the ZR1 to the Stig. Let see if it really eats Ferrari for breakfast.

The first 8 mins of that was utterly pointless, and the guy was talking about the ZeeeR1 like it is the fastest car in the world.

They completly ripped this idea from Audi… and failed to improve on it aswell. The R10 vs Harrier was far more exciting then this..

I want 19 minutes of my life back. If you can turn a F-18 v. ZR1 into total boredom you HAVE talent. I couldn’t have done that on purpose if you paid me.
Srsly just by saying “MY GOD” and releasing to two at speed would have been a better vid.
Amerifag here, just letting you know Motor Trend is a popular auto magazine that is known for being a heavily in the bag for GM. For decades…then the GTR R35… Finally they hhaaad no other choice to write a good review for a nonGM car.

I’ve never understood the point of car vs jet videos – the jet always wins. The jet will always win unless very soon we make some kind of 303mph crazy-car with 2000lb ft that can reach 250mph in a mile or so.

I wonder what it would be like to have a race between a rolls-royce and an aeroplane………….since they have same engines but the only problem is that the aeroplane will use 2 or 4 engines!!!!!
Erm… have we forgotten Gilles Villeneuve already? As he proved, the plane won’t “always win”, but the odds are stacked in it’s favour, blatantly.

I think I must be imagining things.. you see, I could have sworn that it was a Veyron and a Eurofighter, or maybe even a Saab 9-5 and a Harrier. I can’t imagine that they’d just nick something that’s been done before by another show though, so I must be mistaken.

i bet that the ZR1 could beat the enzo round the track because it has better brakes, more torque and a better power and torque curve that extends right through the rev range. I love this car sooo much!! ZR1 ftw!!
