Forza: now with added Le Mans

Posted by Sam Philip at 11:40 am on Thursday June 18, 2009

Just in case that Forza vs Gran Turismo 5 fight we started last week had cooled off a bit, here’s another bit of information to stoke the flames right back up.

Turn 10, the developers of Forza Motorsport 3, have confirmed that the upcoming game will feature the Circuit De La Sarthe.

Yes, that’s the Le Mans track – all 8.5 miles and 21 turns of it.

There’s more. You’ll be able to tackle La Sarthe in Peugeot’s Le Mans-winning 908 racer. The one that doesn’t break down any more. We’re not sure yet whether Audi’s not-quite-so-quick R15 will be available yet, but last year’s R10 is there.

Maybe we’re still in a bit of a post-Le Mans haze of happiness, but this has raised Forza right up in our estimations. Any loyal Playstationers converted?

I’m pretty pleased about this, to say the least. Playing an accelerated Le Mans 24 hour on Circuit de la Sarthe in GRID has been huge fun, and Forza’s driving mechanics are great, so this should be epic.

GT5 will be great as well, I’m sure. I just doubt I’ll buy a PS3 for it.

Forza is a great game series – as is Project Gotham Racing on the Xbox 360… however whether any of the consoles last long enough to actually play these games for more than an hour before breaking is a big question mark! I’ll stick the the reliable PS3 and the mighty GT5! :)

In Gran Turismo 4 was the Circuit De La Sarthe included, so I think it will be in GT 5 too.

I like GT best and I don’t care who makes a good copy of it, I always will prefer the original.

I must admit this is probably the best looking news I’ve seen for Forza 3 so far. But, Gran Turismo has had Le Mans before (GT4 anybody?). It’s very unlikely that it won’t be featured again, and with the rumoured weather change/day and night change I can still see GT5 coming out on top.

Yeah this is just a copy of GT4, itwas there complete with 24hr endurance race, lots of LMP cars from the audi, bentley, etc right through to the old 80’s mazdas 90’s toyotas and many more.

Why would they remove it from GT5, I normally hate this term, but this argument is a fail!

Yeah Cirque De le Sarthe has been in the last 2 or 3 GT’s actually. Two versions, the original with the one massive straightaway, and the revised edition after a few Le Mans deaths, that added Chicaines into the straight away.

I still prefer Nurburgring Nordeschleife more, which GT5 also has ;)

Well it was in GT4, so hopefully it’ll appear in GT5. As has already been said though, GT4 included the track and actual 24 hour endurance events, so its not a “new” feature as such.

The Circuit De La Sarthe has also appeared (though, notably, with some minor mistakes) in GRID as well.

Like many people have said. Gran Turismo 4 already had Le Mans on it. even the version without the chicanes in it.

so no this hasnt changed much i shouldnt think. i watched the video of them announcing the fact they have Le Mans in the game now and how they got pro drivers to tell them all about the circuit. but with GT’s attention to detail im sure they did that too.

I’m still with GT5. although i’ll probably buy Forza 3 too.

The Xbox 360 discs will have not even near enough space to play GT5, the only way i could see it come out on xbox is if they split the game into 2 or 3 discs, which would be annoying.

Le Mans is nothing new toi racing games –
in Gran Turismo 4 there is Le Mans + the 24 hour race (yes you do actually have to play it for a day), and that came out in 2005

Anyway, I’d get Gran Turismo 5 – it will have the Top Gear test track – and way more cars, graphics, gameplay and pretty much everything is better than Forza.

    But I’d need a £300 PS3.
    Which I don’t have.

They’d better not boast about it. IT WAS IN GT4. Why do you think there was a GT4-sponsored Audi R8 team a few years ago, and GT banners on the tyres at the Mulsanne chicanes?

Plus there was a 24 hour race for both the current layout and the old-style one (with an uninterrupted Mulsanne straight).

I still say GT is better. And I can legitimately say that, as I own every edition of both serie.

Yes Forza 3 shall be great I’m sure, but their is no real feeling, no origionality, the games driving physics are little compared to GT5s. In origional GTs there was no acceleration in timing, which was brilliant, but I get that nasty suspicion that Forza will accelerate the time.

The forza game is basically here, and done…It’s been what?! Over 5 years or so since the gt series came out with no damage, and bumper car passes! Seriously, Forza 3 is going to nail it down. Physics, damage, rollovers, customization, etc. etc. Forza 3 hands down. Not only that, but the gt guys were asking questions, and wanting to play forza at e3…The rip off artists are in the building!

PS. The dude who was all whiney about not enough space on dvd… the forza 3 game is coming on two disks. The cars and extras you add to your hard drive, and you still only have to use one disk while playing. No disk swapping. The reality is sony ends up using more space on their games to help load time (Slow read of blu ray), and because it’s not as easy to program for as the pc based 360, so they are doubling information for different parts of the game to re read.

Every gamer, and reviewer that has played both series state that forza is the most realistic to date. Until gt5 actually comes out or has any street date whatsoever, Forza owns the gt series. I mean seriously, I have both systems, and a wii I have and played the gt game, and haven’t looked back after forza 2. Forza has something for everyone, and I fear gt5 will be a whole bunch of cars, and watered down where it counts.

well, so far this seems a bit silly, trying to compare forza 2 to GT4, as many people seem to be doing, is an obvious mistake, Forza 2 is the obvious victor there, as it had current gen graphics and the physics engine was able to take advantage of the 360’s greater grunt. GT4 was on the old gen ps2, so it makes more sense to compare it to forza 1, in which case it was a great deal more realistic in driving physics and had comparable graphics, along with a far superior user interface, more cars, and more tracks. And, while forza did have damage, the system was very seriously flawed. But comparing the 2 new games, GT5 will easily come out on top, as the PS3 has greater processing capabilities, and the disks have a great deal more space, which means that GT5 will most likely have better graphics, better driving physics, more cars, more tracks, a better user interface, better music, ect.

However, both will be very good games so the only thing we can go off of is the video shorts, which seems to indicate that if you want a more serious racing game, get GT5, and if you want a crazy drifting, crashing frenzy, get forza. And, if you’re like me and see the appeal of both, then, obviously, get both.

How can a console deliver greater graphics when it cant even deliver 1080p??? Id like to see whatever game you’re playing that shows this mythical “greater processing capabilities”.

The reality is that GT5 is an old game (5 years and counting)with very poor framerate and horrible load times. It is struggling so hard to keep up with the current games and trends that it is forced back to the drawing board everytime they are ready to release.

You’re stuck with your over-priced, and over-hyped GT demo till…well who knows, likely never.

I’m a massive driving game fan. Bought all the Gran turismo games and all the Forza games.

Putting graphics to one side i think the Forza series is better. Gran Turismo 4 was a bit of a disappointment, not much had changed and the driving physics weren’t that great. Forza 2 however was spot on. An easy game to get into for beginners if you turn the aids on but turn them off and you’ve a real challenge on your hands. I’m still struggling to complete the game because the races are so evenly matched with the car grading system they use unlike GT4 where most races you are struggling you can simply build a faster car than the rest of the field and walk it.

I really hope GT5 is as good but I have my doubts about PolyPHONY Digital these days. How can you release a £20 demo 2 years before the game actually appears? The game has been promised for years and still doesn’t have a firm release date when 2 installments of the Forza Series have been released in the same development time frame. I really hope that they get it right and if they do it’ll be enough to make me buy a PS3. The top gear tie up is great and the graphics are stunning but the driving experience and the difficulty is what will make it or break it in my book.

the reason GT5 has taken so long to make is that they have a team of people that take 28 days to make every single car as they take thoushands of digital photos of the inside and out and that thats not even including the tracks. Obviously there is more than one car being developed at a time otherwise it would take decades. The japanese make the best games by a long way.

Cakey Mess. Its ok saying they have a team of people spending 28 days photographing and making a car model but apart from pixel tarts who really cares.

Any decent driver will be playing the game from the in cockpit view so most of their effort won’t be seen. The effort needs to go into the physics and the level of competition.

Have you forgotten the top gear where clarkson compares gt4 nsx vs real life. Saying that the game would let you brake in a corner and get away with it. You can’t in forza.

GT5 will look prettier no doubt but as a “real driving simulator” i think it will fall short. I hope not but everything i read about it goes on about how amazing the graphics are, and how many cars they’ve got and thats it.

@Slickrubber “please don t give me that “Thousands of pounds on development, three years developing and complete change of gameplay”. Thats why.BS
They made Millions over millions with this franchise, it should be worth some development. They change graphics details yes, they add cars, but the rest stays as it is.Pretty lame for a delay of this size(2 years?LOL).I am actually pretty dissapointed. greetings from Duke Nukem”

I really aint sure what you are talking about.

If you re-read my reply up there you will see I was quoting “HERR STIG”.

I am amazed that T10 has done in 2 years what PD has taken 5 years to do and even then they have surpassed in many areas.

La Sarthe all 3 varients are in Forza, and if anyone cares to notice the winning 908 carried an Xbox logo on the side as did half the cars that raced last weekend so i cant see this or any of these being in GT :)

Forza lets you alter your car every which way you can think of, take a front wheel drive nissan micra do an engin swap and drivetrain make it rwd and turn it into a drift monster if you want or tweak the settings and you’ve got a snorting high grip drag king or go back to stock and pretend you Captaion slow doing a review in the swis alps, then if your fairly gifted at the decal editor paint it up with a livery / Design of your choosing.

Forza has the better physics which is what matters when it comes down to it, i can’t recall any driving game where the production type people have concentrated on how tyres work, they roll lean and deform in the corners, couple this with suspension and tweaked handling settings mess these up and we’ll have a game that will be as close to some squeaky bump real life moments as it gets.

graphics are sweet too, and with the fantec wheel full pedals (working clutch) and 6 speed H gate gear shift i can’t wait, I’ll have to save up to do the multi screen setup to get the total realism effect, roll on October for Forza, GT when where who!!!

Forza 2 and GT5 are good but live for speed http://www.lfs.net is much better if you use a wheel such as a logitech G25. And it only costs £24 for an S2 licence which unlocks all the current content. And the VW scirocco will soon be in the game too.

motor_mad how can you recomend GT5 over Forza 3 when you have never played either of them. For all you know GT5 could be shite and Forza 3 awsome.

gt5 prologue i have played on and in the past racing games always keep there physics such as gt5 hardcore relism and games like grid are arcade physics and that is what forzas of the past have been like. so if your a real racing fan and are looking for ultra realism then buy gt5 but if u want arcade style handeling and a bit of fun then buy forza 3 or grid 2 or even colin mcrae dirt 2. does that give you a straight answer TOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

motor_mad your an idiot. Your preferring a game that’s not even out, or has any gameplay to show. All the reviewers said the forza series nails the physics. Dude, go back to welcoming clowns at walmart. good lord.

I find it really amusing that people are already claiming a victory for GT5 when the game does not even have a release date. If you are honestly going to use more disc space, 1080p resolution, etc., do not make that the crux of your argument. The whole is greater than the sum of its parts. Forza 2 is a proven solid game…and Forza 3 will be no different but improved upon the solid foundation of Forza 2.

And yes, Forza 3 can have better graphics without 1080p. It runs in 1080i, which the differences between it and 1080p are minute and will barely be noticeble. Better graphics fall more on pixel shading than on resolution.

The one point I will concede with GT5 is that it does have better support for racing wheels. The Microsoft wheel is a little small in my opinion and I wish the turning distance was bigger, but I guess that is more a matter of personal taste. I’d rather have a Logitech G25 wheel with the stick shift and clutch pedal, but I will live without it.

i know this has nothing to do with this but i prefer pgr games to these two
they might be way too easy but the gameplay is so much better
i must admit that forza and gran turismo have better career modes and more real tracks around the world though

I respect the Forza developers for actually providing gamers with content they actually want…Such as decent super-cars, and racing cars, and all the favourite tracks, in a full-game. However, by contrast: I don’t really understand the developers of GT5, who haven’t even made the full game yet…with limited cars, and tracks, that have been used to death. To be honest I don’t understand the hold-up, but it would make far more sense if there was at least downloadable addons for Prologue, but as far as I know, they haven’t even done that…

At Le Man last year there was a MASSIVE Playsation area and your could race the Le Mans Circuit. Bucket seats, pedals, steering wheel etc. about 20 consoles running at the same time and you raced in the Audi R8.

I assume then this was GT5

look, the easiest way to sort this is quite simple really, wait untill both games come out then play them, and then start arguing over which is best. both games have there good and bad points, but only until we play both can any result be achieved. im lucky i have both consoles and will be getting both games (if gt5 ever gets released)but i love both series equally because they are different. the majority of people on here who champion one of the games will only have that console…so get a better job, shut up and get both games when they both come out.

OK, I’ve been reading the comments on this site about Forza 3 vs GT5 for long enough – and there’s A LOT of bullshit coming from both sides, mainly about GT5.
    I present to you : The Truth ( about GT5 )

GT5 WILL HAVE DAMAGE, as is showcased in the trailer shown at E3, they specifically zoomed in at that part just to emphasize it’s inclusion in the game.

GT5 WILL HAVE more cars than Forza 3, it’s already embarassing enough that the PSP version of GT has twice as many cars as Forza 3 does.

GT5 DOES HAVE a rough release date of either late 2009/early 2010.

THERE IS a new steering wheel coming out for GT5, the G27 , it’s not the official one, it’s gonna be damn expensive, but it has a clutch, sequential and H configuration gearbox, flappy paddles and an LED rev counter thingy.

And may I finally say that, imo, the car models of GT5 Prologue ALREADY look better than those of Forza 3, so I’m sure that GT5 will look even better than Prologue did.

    POS 3
The reality is that GT5 is an old game (5 years and counting)with very poor framerate and horrible load times. It is struggling so hard to keep up with the current games and trends that it is forced back to the drawing board everytime they are ready to release.

How can u say that when nobody has played the game yet?

Getting back to the driving-which is the most important-i think forza nails it better!

i do hate the fact that in 2 player-there are only 2 cars,no computer cars-really annoys me!

is the new one gonna have more cars in mutilplay?
    does gt5 have this?

(i know u can go online but still!)

this is great news and forza 3 is shaping up to be a great game, ive had it pre-ordered since it was announced at e3 however this still isnt enough to stop me buyin a ps3, GT5 just looks so damn good, but i guess thats to be expected since they have had 5 years to develop it and turn 10 only had 2 and a bit but oh well.

I have always been a Playstation and GT fan (up to GT4), however now I have a 360 so I downloaded the new Forza 3 demo.

Will GT5 have telemetry? I don’t know. Does Forza 3? Yes and it’s amazing. Like every racer I want to know what my car is doing or at least be able to figure it why something happens. My life changed after driving a formula car and I suddenly need this realism in my games.

Also, leave it to Sony to employ their crappy release strategy again for GT5 vs Forza 3 like they did with the PS3 vs Xbox 360. After playing 360 for a year now and seeing PS3 games my one friend has, I’m not impressed. Hat’s off to Microsoft for dominating the market for high end games. Gears of War 2 anyone?
