Sebastian Loeb loves carparks

Posted by Tom Ford at 4:29 pm on Tuesday April 28, 2009

One of our CupHolderers put me on to this (thanks Steve) – it’s Seb Loeb playing silly buggers in a carpark for no reason at all (apart from sponsors) in his C4 WRC car. Ok, so it’s a little lowbrow, but since when has that been an issue for us? And is it just me, or does that C4 look mighty soft? Still manages to do excellent 4×4 donuts.. and check out how close he gets to that parked car.

It’s not the WRC. It’s closer to the S2000. Which he openly said is crap. But, he can play with it. I love the 4×4 donnuts in the asphalt.

    It’s a Citroën road show.

He did this in Argentina the previous weekend to the Rally. Which we swept btw.

*HE swept. Not we, I wish it was we… but the closer I got was in 96 or 97, at the mountains, 2 meters from the cars when Makkinen won.

    Highly recommendable.

What is it with Red Bull and Sebastians ? You have Loeb, Vettel, Bordais and Buemi anyway for anymore ?

So Gavin, if you want your kid to be fast, you don’t name him Howard, or Chuck. You go with Sebastian.

It really seems soft. It just doesn’t look like it has all that much power for that kind of freestyle.

I think the Sebastians are a line of android, or clone, or some other top secret Stig creation program devised by Red Bull to dominate racing like they dominate getting kids the kids who aren’t already on drugs hooked on pseudo-amphetamines.

If the Stig had a first name, it would be Sebastian?

    More Sebastian Loeb:

Even during the Tour of Flanders, cars are not allowed on the Wall of Geraardsbergen. But when two motorsport heroes challenge one another to an extraordinary duel, the impossible becomes possible. The stake of this battle of the titans was simple: who will be the first to reach the top of the legendary Wall, five -time world champion Sébastien Loeb with his Red Bull Citroen C4 WRC or ten-time world champion Stefan Everts with his KTM 450 cc?
It was a very close battle on the slippery cobblestones of the Wall, but with a difference of only a tenth of a second, Everts managed to defeat Loeb. Probably the only loss this year for the Frenchman…
The loser of the duel had the pleasant task of cleaning his opponent’s vehicle!

Very softly sprung indeed, with whipped cream for dampers. Makes it easier to control drifts & doughnuts. As I learned in… er… GranTurismo2. Shhh… Low ride with firm setup prevents drifting. On the downside: if finally you dó drift, you’re doomed.

You either love him or hate him.. I’m for the latter he should retire and spare us the pain of watching him win ! As for the donuts.. well, made for and by…

Wow, that Wall of Geraardsberge is really narrow.

The first video is at Av 9 de Julio, it was a Citrôen/Red Bull event before the Rally that took place in Córdoba. Tough I would have prepared a mini race in a circuit with the C4 and KTM’s

Now, obviously I am aware that this is the Michael Schumacer of the WRC flexing his muscles in a mighty, er, Citroen, but to the casual observer this looks, at points, like an unpolished gymkhana driver.

Maybe I shouldn’t compare this with Ken Block or whichever mad Subaru Impreza driver it was that did gymkhana.

Rick, everyone knows – that is: some say – that his first name is “The”.

To Mikeado: I’ve already seen a few comments comparing this video to the Ken Block Gymkhana video and, as much as I love the Gymkhana video, its a pretty unfair comparison.

This video was shot in an enclosed space, using a car with over 200 BHP less than Blocks Gymkhana car, and the whole thing was done in one take. Although Block is clearly a talented driver he took two days, countless takes and some clever post film editing to put the Gymkhana video together: Loeb did the above in a single run, with no pauses and no video editing tricks after the run.

Someone should really arrange for Loeb (or another WRC talent) to take a spin in Blocks Gymkhana car…

    Oh, and great video Bakske!

Sorry to double post, but I just found this little gem:

Sebastian Loeb nearly wipes out a policeman who clearly didn’t look both ways before crossing.

That’s not a carpark, that’s a closed Street/Avenue (and a reatively important one at that)

Steve, I did think it wasn’t really a fair comparison. Besides, the only place I’ve ever seen driving like either of them for myself is MPH/TopGear Live. Good, but much more practiced than Loeb.

That Citroën is in gravel setup with gravel tyres to make it look more dramatic. In tarmac setup those wrc cars are just all go no show.

WRC will become dull in 2011 with no turbocharged engines.
