So the production version of the 200EX Roller is due to be called the ‘Ghost’. Great, evocative name, and one from Rolls Royce’s past. And pretty damn cool, if you ask me. Still, where can they go next? Spirit? Yes, possibly. But I’d be just as keen on the Rolls Royce Demon rather than the Rolls Royce Manifestation, or the two-door ‘Ectoplasm’. More info after the jump.

This is from the press release that came out this morning:
“Rolls-Royce Motor Cars has confirmed further details about the production version of 200EX, the experimental car shown at the Geneva motor show early in March 2009.
Rolls-Royce CEO, Tom Purves announced the details at a press conference in New York where 200EX is currently being shown to potential customers on the first leg of a world tour.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Purves said, “There has been a great deal of interest in this car since we first talked about producing a new model series in the autumn of 2006 and the reaction 200EX received at its unveiling at Geneva was very positive. As we move another step closer to the start of production at Goodwood, it is exciting to be able to share some of the specific technical details with customers and the media.”
He continued, “RR4 will deliver an authentic Rolls-Royce experience to owners, so expect peerless comfort and build quality. However, we have consciously engineered this car to be more involving and dynamic for those owners around the world that will wish to drive it themselves.”
RR4 will be powered by a brand new 6.6 litre turbo charged V12 engine unique to Rolls-Royce. The engine will be combined with an 8-speed automatic ZF gearbox. This new drive-train will significantly improve fuel and CO2 efficiency over the already class leading Phantom series of cars. Engine power will be upwards of 500bhp. “
Further details about RR4 will be released over the coming months, and we can’t wait…

headlights are not as ugly as the other recent rollers.
good thing
A Rolls Royce Banshee would be even cooler.
But this one here looks very impressive as well. :p
I’m liking the name that Rolls Royce have chosen for the EX200, its a typical Rolls Royce style name which no other company would think of calling their car, it keeps it exclusive and adds to the prestige of the Roller and as we all know Rolls Royce is the pinnacle of prestige motors so ‘Ghost’ will be fitting. That 6.6 litre turbo charged V12 is going to be a work of art, cant wait for this to be released. Its also gonna be just under 18 ft long so considerably smaller than the Phantom which is another bonus coz no way can u do a 3-point turn in the middle of the road in that thing! haha! This car is more like the Phantoms predecessor the Silver Sereph but a bit more up to date. Noice!
The tech specs sound very very similar to the BMW 7 series, are they sure that the engine is going to be unique to Rolls Royce?
Incidentally I just saw a Rolls Royce Phantom pass my front window. What’s unusual about that is I don’t live in London or Dubai but in West Cork, Ireland! The only other ones I’ve seen are outside posh hotels and at Top Gear Live.
Rolls-Royce have some sort rhythm going on with their car names. First it was the Phantom, now it’s the Ghost, what next? Maybe the Reaper?
I have to admit that it looks stunning, especially for a huge luxury car of this type. I’m not sure about an 8-speed gearbox, it’s a bit OTT, especially in a Roller, but who knows, it might be good!
I love the idea of a small Roller even though it’s still incredibly long, which brings up an interesting question.
Why would you buy a ghastly SWB Maybach when you can get the Ghost which looks incredible? I know which one i’d buy, the Ghost.
BTW, I’ve just found a pic of the Ghost Drophead and guess what, it looks staggering!
http://pictures.topspeed. com/IMG/crop/200903/rolls -royce-silver-g_800x0w.jp g
Cant wait for the Rolls Poltergeist
although that being said, I do think that with that name it could be a small suv
Actually Reaper would work rather well for a coupe version of the car. Spirit would also work, as would Wraith and both have history to back them up.
Its a good looking car, hoping the production version doesn’t change too much from this. Maybe sharpen up the rear door window angles a bit, make it look a little more upright.
They could set it on fire and call it the Rolls Royce Ghost Rider!!
They should really call it the Silver Ghost, like they did even 100 years ago. They came in other colours too, much like this new one.
Either way, I daresay this will end up being to the 7-Series what the Maybach is to the S-Class. Veeeery expensive flashy version. I also think that, while this 200EX looks great, the Phantom* looks more British.
*Is a ghost supposed to be smaller/lesser than a phantom?
Yeah the Ghost is 2 ft smaller than the phantom making it roughly 18 ft long maybe just a lil bit under and its gonna be priced at around 180k.
This brings me onto a point actually, I read somewhere that this is to be a ‘Baby Rolls Royce’ may I ask for anybody who thinks of this as a ‘Baby Rolls Royce’ to be lined up and shot by a firing squad please! How can a Roller be a baby car even if it is smaller than the Phantom? Even if it is slightly smaller this car at 18 ft long is still gonna be a big car! Thats not the only point about it, Rolls Royce as I said before has always been the absolute of prestige, elegance, engineering and so many more things so I find it rather insulting as a fan of Rollers to hear that this is a ‘Baby Rolls Royce’, that term I’m afraid just kills the essence of the Rolls Royce and that it stands for luxury and perfection. Absolutely ridiculous! Does anybody agree with me on this I would be interested to know?
Those headlights look awfully small. If they don’t use LED’s for that, then they’re useless.
this is probably the best burnout ever, the guy pushes it until the exhausts are on fire
iRep_McLaren – I actually meant ghosts being smaller than phantoms outside the world of cars, but I do agree with the point you made.
At worst, this is a sign that no-one’s buying Phantoms anymore. But, as they’ve been around for about 5 years, surely replacing that would be better?
Obviously, the term ‘baby’ is relative, but it seems RR are trying to build a car to please the public, rather than just do their own thing. This is reasonable considering that blasted ‘economy’ thing, but out of character. Hopefully it won’t feel as dry as some of the thinking behind it. Not that I’ll ever be rich enough to know for myself…
Somewhat off topic: what’s it with those “sneak preview” headlines, that I get when looking at the “blogs” page. Often gives me inaccesible headlines from the future! Like currently the “Walls of death” which has been there since yesterday evening, but with a HTTP:404 upon click.
I think your CMS is a bit confused
…
nice bit of kit, 500+ bhp should insure sub 6 second 0-60 times, probably about 160mph top speed. 6.6 V12 with turbo should have heaps of tourque too.
Thanks to Mikeado for backing me on that! ur absolutely right and haha I get what u mean with the ghost/phantom thing now.
One thing I don’t seem to understand is why Rolls Royce would want to appeal to the public in that way because majority of the public can’t afford one anyways and despite the economic crisis if u can still afford one (in which u would have to be wealthy) then obviously these are upper class people and would expect Rolls Royce to do their own thing despite the current economic climate. Besides that would all be kind of irrelevant because to my knowledge Rolls Royce didn’t label it the ‘Baby Rolls Royce’ it was actually those hu did media coverage on the car e.g magazines. Also people have to get to grips with the fact that this is not the only Roller that has been of that size its not like the line has always been the Phantom, it just so happened that the Phantom was very big so the Ghost isn’t really a downsized Roller, the Phantom was just a big car.
And it is about time Rolls Royce made something other than the Phantom, as much as I appreciate the car and think its beautiful it is overly ostentatious and Is aimed at a bling market when quite frankly not everyone in that market is so bling.
Rolls Royce have done a good job on this car though
Exactly the sort of thing I would love to drive!
Rolls-Royce Revenant?
I’m going to start my own luxury car workshop, aiming at the Ghost. My first model will be called the Ghostbuster.
Sweet looking car, pity about the name. Then again, when have car names ever been that good? I draw attention to the Mazda Bongo Brawny, the Honda Joy-Machine, and the Isuzu Mysterious Utility Wizard. I wish I’d made those up…
@moneymouth77: Don’t forget the Mitsubishi Lettuce.
that is very very ugly
How about the Rolls Royce ineffable manifestation of a hypermodelic entity.
I only like Bentley car from whole of england because all the car manufactre has sold out their companies to germans or to Indians.
RR does not have that individual British look like Bentley. Not Even RR even Rover,Jaguar they are having GErman or Indian impersion on the car.
If i have to buy car like RR i will ot buy RR the only british car i want to buy is Bently Brooklands.
if my comment on RR is wrong then email me at kmayawi@gmail.com.
what about the RR Poltergeist…
an advert might go: “Poltergeist: so quiet and smooth, that things around you seem to move of their own will”…
hmmm… not that catchy, actually..
Wraith
they should name it The Shadow…. its the new Silver Shadow……
@Harsh: Are you deliberately posting idiotic posts to gather e-mail addresses from people wanting to tell you you’re an idiot?
Please, find a tuning forum and tell them just how ‘British’ Bentley is
The Roller Holy Trinity, that’d have to be a SUV I guess. 4X4 of course.
The Spirits, with drinks cabinet. No, hold on, they already got that one.
The Others, comes with Nicole Kidman statuette on the bonnet, naked for preference.
The Freddy Krueger limited edition of course.
The Mk XIII.
The Hannibal Lectre Anniversary.
Wait! How about this one? The Shining!
Finchy. Nicely said!
Harsh, Bentleys are full of VW bits and are driven by footballers and oil barons. Plus the look has been cheapened by the Chrysler 300C. But I wouldn’t mind an old Arnage T.
Those c***s should have without a doubt called it the RR4 or 200EX. Ghost? GHOST?! Come ON.
i think the new rolls-royce should be called the overstated
at least its a less pompous looking ferry to the local golf course, because of cars like this the worlds putters and drivers will be cocooned in sumptuous leathers and woods, instead of the despairing parts bins that are bentleys….. but thats still not a good thing really, is it?
@Finchy & @Mikeado
Harsh is very right all our car makers are under Germans or Indians.the UK is under imported companies well want to tell about rover it’s half made in India by car maker TATA.
Well about Finchy & @Mikeado they are living in dreams and they are idot & maybe american junkies.
Harsh i am with you
@Finchy
Finchy you are an idot coz you do not know anything about the car nakes around the world.
may be you are kid.
@Finchy
Hey Finchy you are an mental kid GB & Harsh are very right. you are a very big Big O Idot.
where are you from USA?.
This looks nicer than the Phantom and hope the interiors better than that which will be hard!
Looks an awesome car, i’d have one if i had a spare 180K!!!
Harsh/Brit/GB/British Bulldog/Jonny English, all the same person obviously, get a life, go back to school and do some homework. Do you really believe a bentley is any more or less british than a RR??? BMW or VW, you’re choice… Grow up…
To be honest lets just keep our fingers crossed and hope any kind of car industry in the UK remains, whether it be Mclaren, RR, Bentley, Honda, Jag, Nissan, Toyota, Mini etc….
I think will be great because Rolls Royce are always brilliant
I live in Chichester and saw this out on test two days ago covered in black covers to disguise it, looked a sensible size, nice to see it in finished form. The two door is now the couse car at Goodwood car track with red and blue flashing lights, very cool
I can just see all those Chinese engineers beavering away at their copy as we speak…
after the phantom and ghost, will the next one be called the skeleton or something like that?
looks like something yoda built
when he was on drugs!
What a beautiful car – except for one thing. Rolls~Royce has broken with over 100 years of tradition by dramatically changing the shape of the radiator grill – blending it into the bodywork rather than letting it stand proud, as in the Phantom. The classic shape at the top has been rounded to make it look like just an ordinary car, which no RR ever is! I hope that when the car ‘modernised’ in the future, the designers will look back to the traditional and unique shape of the proper Rolls~Royce radiator grill!
nice but looks a bit like the Vauxhall Insignia, I think from that angle.
Ohhhh my God! I never realized it until Christopher Holmes just said it, but he is exactly right, the radiator grill is completely different! I’m a bit disappointed now, obviously still a beautiful car but thats 100 years of tradition down the toilet so to speak. Correct me if I’m wrong but this is blatantly a German’s doing.
@Nice Talk about the tradition not technology.
You must do you home work first and we are not one our thiking is one.If Harsh and we are wrong then ask RR it self.
Jonny English, or whoever you may be, stop posting rubbish and actually talk about the car. But first please at least write it in legible English for people to understand, it kind of backs up you being a 12 yr old.
I thought the car looked more sleek, and Christopher Holmes you are spot on! If it had a radiator that stood proud it would make the front 1/4 seem more aggresive and classic RR. I like it, a subtle touch, and the Phantom still has that grill. Perhaps a new tradition is forming, smaller RR more modern, larger one keeping the tradition.
I’ve just worked out what car the back reminds me of, a Maserati Quatroporte

http://www.automobilesrev iew.com/gallery/maserati- quattroporte-sport-gt-s/m aserati-quattroporte-spor t-gt-s-03.jpg
It’s the tail lights that do it, and i think it looks very good.
I like the name Ghost but Spirit would have been better and the car I have always liked Rolls Royce but never had the money to own one.
Even if it isn’t British anymore I still feel it is part of the old empire and still stand for all that is British, the empire will rise again the spirit will rise.
But sadly the only people who can afford this type of car are the very rich and are having to pay half of what they earned to the tax man, which is sad as it was those kind of people that brought money into this country.
But the working classes can afford a RR from the second hand market even if they are more than ten years old. problem the government want you to give your car up if it’s over ten years old for less than it could be worth.
i like the new rolls looks pretty damn nice and cheap to buy thats if your living in Monte Carlo and a millionaire i give it 8/10 im my opinion
i love the car and the name. but is the car necessary when the phantom exists?
Why cant you tell us the upcoming Ghost information?
To sam_c. Of course this car is necessary have u seen the size of the Phantom and then looked up the size of this new model? This is much smaller therefore more convenient for day to day use and when your gonna blow 180k on a car Im quite sure that u will want to use it a lot otherwise its a waste of money. Besides Rolls Royce need to add something new to their range, they can’t just keep milking the Phantom otherwise they will just become repetitive and therefore boring. Hope this answers ur question.
Hey Nice i am british and living in UAE Dubai Where RR are Cab Taxi ok and i do own bentley brooklands after selling RR drophead.
You can even think to buy this.
I know better than you it is like think of blonde and f-u-c-k-i-n-g blonde in realty.
and one more thing as i am british i really do not like jeremy becoz it is jerm.
Hey nice one more thing use your automatic electric ejaculation system only when you sleep.
Nice!
Rolls Royce is not a car, it’s an appartment. An expensive one too.
It’s ridiculous what some cars have become. Yes, if you’re King Solomon then you’d want one to impress, but I’m not King Solomon. And I definitely can’t afford this sort of flashy thing that I probably won’t even enjoy driving. I’d prefer a Golf GTI. And, if, God forbid, I crash it, I can always go out and buy another one or two and still have some money to spend on getting my girlfriend drunk enough to not whine about my driving back home.
Ok, people who own Rolls’s don’t actually have girlfriends. They have harems. But I only have one girlfriend so I’ll stick to the Golf.
i think at the front it looks like a bently flying spur.
HOW MUCH IS THE CAR IN RAND
Most of it Looks Nice But the headlights look alittle bit cheesey!!!
ok
