as fast as a zr1 is the fact of the matter is that like most american cars its most made of plastic which flexs when you breath on it as well as the fact when you use them yourself you relise that the steering wheel isnt actually attached to the wheels not to forget though the do look good in america when you bring them over to europe they look rubbish against cars like the 599

In all seriousness though, I think it’d be beat by the electronics of the GTR, but I really don’t think it’d be an ass-kicking. Contrary to what some stupid people seem to think, some American cars actually can go around corners.
That was a great drag race. The corvette was the odvious winner because it had loads more power than it’s rivals. Only problem with the drag race is that there was one car missing that should have raced, the Lamborghini Murcielago LP-640 or the new LP-670/4 SV.

Seriously, did they just want to show Americans a Yank winning at something? Pathetic. And show those cars a few corners, and I bet the epic Nissan GT-R comes out on top. Yes, I know the ZR1 – in fact all Corvette C6′s – are among the precious few US cars that understand corners, but there’s nowhere near the same control.

It all but matched the record time set by a stripped out track racer on R-compound tyres(Viper ACR,the OTHER, World beating, AMERICAN supercar))
Its incredable that it outran the four wheel drive grip advantage the Nissan enjoys out of the hole.
And the manual transmision,heavily handicapped the Corvette between the gear changes.
The automated gear boxes in the other cars are 5 times faster at shifting than a conventional manual like the Corvette has.It was designed and built as a true drivers car so it uses a manual shifter and foot pedal clutch..a HUGE advantage in ANY drag race.
Unbelievable car that ZR1!! dollar for dollar it’s simply the best supercar ever!!
It’s not incredible that a hugely powerful car with high performance tyres beat a car weighing 1740 kg + driver with a power deficit of around 200bhp. Drag races prove nothing unpredictable.
Plus ring times are irrelevant, because they’re all done with different drivers, making any scientific comparison unfair, and thus null and void. Wait for the TG track test, with the same driver, before claiming anything.
That said I do like the ZR1, in blue. But you can’t have one in England because you’d look silly/brash.

I agree with PetrolHead247 were’s the murcie lp640, its in same price range as 599. plus we all know how fast the lp640 is. on top gear track hit 207mph in straight line, and in that episode were they were against the Germans it wasn’t far off the ariel atom. insanely quick car and in a straight line i think it would have beat this line up.
The Corvette ZR1 is acually a really good car even though build quality is not that good but you just dont care, 640bhp and 6th fastest car in the nurburgring and not costing as much as a ferrari or a 911 gt2

corvette’s don’t do corners? how many of you “experts” have driven one? judging by the rehashed clarkson/pub expert comments on here, not many of you. my standard c6 (the actual car that clarkson test drove for his times review)is a match for most cars on the road. read clarkson review in the times for his real thoughts on the car, not his comedy put downs on top gear.

I saw the American road trip, and I realise the ZR1 isn’t bad in the corners, but I’d still rather have the GTR.

Its “amazing” how the Vette won, its only got the MOST power. It probably fell apart minutes after they finished filming. Every road test i’ve seen with this car it always beats every european car in a drag race as if that shows the epitome of performance, and every american gets hard over it, and the several americans who bought this car and said “This thang right here’s a supercar, beets’em dang europeans, whoever they are.” as his body work falls off bit by bit, will realise that roads usually bend.
You brits have me laughing! You still hold on to the tired old conclusion that we Americans cannot make a car that corners. Wrong! Just to let you know, the Corvette ZR1 posted a 7:26 by GM’s own Jim Mero at the Nurburgring. After that, Jan Magnussen posted a blistering 7:22! Both the Corvette ZR1 and the Viper ACR hold the fastest times for production cars at the ring. Take that europe!
they didn’t take it out onto a circut because they felt to bad for the others, it would have kicked their ass there too
you guys dont like drag racing because you have 15sec cars. its not as easy as one think going on a straight line with a 3 sec car. point is because you have a slow car dont mean drag racing is moot, dont knock it till you try it.
