The Nissan certainly looks a lot more composed than the ZR1, but its a shame that the GT-R video doesnt give timings and speeds like the ZR1 video.
The GT-R also doesn’t look plastic like the Corvette, but with all that power the Corvette might be more fun around a circuit like this so the plastic dash might not be too much of a problem!
Just 2.9 seconds in it! Would love to see more stats on the GT-R. Clearly it’s got less horse power so to post that time is impressive.
If I was just mucking about and trying to have a laugh, I’d have the Vette. If I actually wanted to go fast, the GT-R is the way to go, though it’d have to be the new V-Spec, even though it costs about £100,000 (Nearly twice as much! But I bet it’ll flatten a £150,000 GT2). Midnight Purple ftw! Plus the Nissan would probably get less dirty looks in Britain…

The GT-R looks more composed and less on the raggedy edge. This is entirely speculative but, if I were to be driving around a track, I think I’d pick the GT-R. The GT-R looks to be a lot easier to drive and more tightly bolted together. The ZR1 looks like a lot of fun, and faster, but the GT-R looked to be more in control.
sure the datson is fast but it sounds like crap and looks rather lumpy. now the ZR1 sounds AMAZING and looks simply evil. not bad for a push rod V8 designed in the 50s. and i can GARUNTEE that the guy in the corvette was having more fun.

i would take the GT-R any day of the week, and twice on sundays! if you so chose, you could do engine mods, and it would still be drivable around a corner thanks to the four wheel drive. also, it looks so much tougher/meaner than the vette =D

I have Been a Skyline fan for at least a decade, but the question asked was what looked funner. the answer obviously was the Vette.
surprising and slightly disappointing.
OK, the ricer could go faster. If you set both going at the same point on the track (ignore the clocks)then you’ll see they’re both together until ~ 4 mins in, then the corvette gets ahead by a full corner, but by 6 mins they’re back together, so the nissan has been held back a tad by the driver compared to the vette, then near the end you can see the vette is a hell of a lot faster to the finish by the huge gap it pulls out. Nissan has maybe 1/2 second to gain but it’ll still be slower!
I’ll take the vette, not just for it’s speed, but because it obviously handles just as good as the Nissan and it’s got a nicer engine noise.

Once you have the muscle car fever you can’t loose it. I’m the type of guy that prefers a little more tail action than planted 4wd disclocate your lung grip.
Surprisingly, the Nissan needs allot more steering input.
I like both cars, but the driver in the ZR1 looks like he’s having more fun than the driver in the GTR. The Nissan sounds very bland and boring, like a 480HP Vacuum cleaner. The Corvette has that signature V8 soundtrack, and there’s the unforgettable supercharger whine(hard to hear in this vid).
Overall, the ZR1 looks faster and quicker, and is the one Id take home.

actually from what i’ve heard, it’s not the GT-R’s transmission’s fault, it’s the drivers… there was a thread on motor trend that had nearly the same comment, and someone came back with a engine-only tuned gt-r that with 100bph more power, didn’t fail in over 100 launch controled starts… and other than the engine tune, they hadn’t touched anything…
The Vette has a GM’s head of engineering driving !!

My point is proven by the fact that Jan Magnussen ran a FASTER lap in the ZR1 than the racer/engineer… with a FRACTION of the seat time that John has had behind the wheel.

well this has gone on long enough, i never meant he was a bad driver, i meant he was probably very quick, and would know the foibles of the car better than most people, hence it wasn’t that amazing that he ran a fast time just because he was an engineer. i know that it’s running the faster lap – for now (spec V anyone?)
oh, and the video has jim mero driving, not John Heinricy…

well i would hardly say it’s suspect still, except by the moon landing deniers, they even showed the tires… and they have way more to lose than to gain by lying… i never doubted the ZR1 held the lap time for a while, just pointed out that the driver (jim mero) had previous racing xp.
the ZR1 looks quicker, funner, meaner and sounds 100 times more better than the GT-R, oh i think any person in their right mind would have an american mucle company,like the Corvette over a cheap asian company, like Nissan. no mater how much carbon fibre you put on the GT-R, it is still a cheap Nissan
… you could say the same thing about the vette… a callaway on the other hand….
The GTR sounds like it’s going to explode at high rev’s. It’s V6 doesn’t sound like a proper Supercar. The Vette sounds better and looks more at ease being flung around the track, plus it is considerably quicker in all performance tests.
Please let us see the Sting unleash the ZR1 on the TG track!

funny that you should mention meds… anyhoo the corvette IS cheaply made, i’m not saying it’s a bad car, but until now, they have all been lovely to look at, crap to drive… and well gm IS a cheap brand… i would say nissan is on par with them… and as for the launch control/GT-R is POS comment… how many times can you launch that 660hp 3600lb enzo before the clutch is toast? oh yeah three times… i never pissed on corvette as a brand, but they ARE cheap compared to porche, lambo, fezza, pagani, buggatti, konegsiegg… need i go on? and if by gay canadian version you meant stylish and metrosexually cool, than yes, yes it is. sorry for any spelling errors, but i had to fire this off quickly.

Hi everybody, I live in New York, and I love both these cars. For the past few years I have been obsessing over the GTR. I have a poster of it hanging up in my garage! But, the ZR1 is a much better car. On a practical note, it has a trunk (boot) that could put a Mercedes S Class’s to shame. Also, at the end of the day the ‘vette is simply a Chevy. Just take it to a chevy dealer, and pay chevy prices if anything goes wrong with it. Then again, at the end of the day the GTR is just a Nissan. But I hear that like most other supercars, you pay telephone numbers to fix anything on it. Plus, they void your warranty the minute you use launch control, or turn off the traction control.
You Britons need to realize that the Corvette is the most user friendly and practical supercar that you can buy in every aspect including fuel economy. Even the Z06 manages to get highway gas mileage comparatively to a 3 series BMW.
You also need to remember that the GTR’s time was rigged. It was not using standard race tires, the suspension was firmed up. It was not street-spec. People have tried on a normal GTR on the Nordschleiffe, and they say it’s not anywhere near as fast as they say. The ZR1 really did it’s time fair and square.
I love that ZR1 so much. The only good American car besides the CTS-V. Hope to own one one day.
Remember Clarkson made it his car of the year!!! He could have chosen the Audi R8, or the Lamborghini LP560-4, but he didn’t. He chose something American! How good is the ZR1 if clarkson picked an American car as car of the year over a Lamborghini?!?!?
Give the ‘Vette more respect, it really deserves it.
Anyone who thinks the GTR 7:29 is suspect watch the damn vid on YOUTUBE Porsche are just sore about a car cheaper and better car then there old and rather pathetic performance cars. The ZR1 is an American master peice (first ever) whether it sounds better or is more fun to drive the GTR is £40,000 cheaper in my book I would buy the cheaper car and get a 2nd hand Bentley Con GT for the £40,000. For me (maybe im strange) but I want performance without the stupid noise I hate it why do you need a car to make all that noise…It’s like having a loud and noisy HOVER (not like I hover) over a quiet one becuase you feel like your actually doing more with the loud one, just stupid…Just hope that when the Spec V comes out for the same price as a ZR1 it can beat it and Nissan are only just getting going while the Corvettes are…what…10-12th generation whatever it is they have had alot longer to get there act together…
On and it only comes in left hand drive and left hand drive cars should be illegal due to saftey issues, how do they see ahead???
Anyone who says that the ZR1 is better just don’t know there cars, all they see is how good it is but when the ZR1 weights less, is lower to the ground, more BHP, bigger engine 2 seats less than the GTR no super sound system is a left hand drive only, AND is £40,000 MORE for just a bit more performace couple a secs on the Nurburgring couple a secs on a 1/4 oh come please give me a break. There has never been a car like the GTR for the price it’s an enginering master piece (and did the ZR1 give Clarkson whiplash OOOOHHHH no the GTR did).
Oh and forgot about the Carbon Brakes and body work…If the ZR1 was the same price or there about I would want one in a heart beat, but for £40,000 more no will wait for the Spec V…

Well, I think I could probably get the GT-R around the ‘Ring, while I think I would probably spin out, and burst into flames in the ZR1…but that is because I’m pretty much a driving dog.
They are both monstrously fast, in pretty much the opposite ways, but I think the GT-R looks quicker while the ZR1 looks more dramatic
the GTR is! As it recently topped its time and set a personal record of 7:27 in front of media and Porche Stuttgart on dunlop run flat tyres (standard). T.Suzuki-san nissan’s cheif race car driver is continuing racing this week at the ‘ring’ to set a target time of 7:25.
to gunhaver: about the corvette being cheaply built compared to porche, bugatti, lambo, etc. need i mention that all those companies, aside from porche, all cost alot more then the vett, i left porche out cause the have a couple of cars cheaper then the vette.
and if porche was being sore about it and tested it for themselves why did nissan tell them the needed to properly break it in over a year instead of letting them use the same GTR that they used in the video it would save alot of trouble cause 1: they could test it for themselves
2:they could look at the car and see if its running street tires and a stock suspension
3: they could dyno it and make sure its putting out the horsepower nissan is claiming.
so the people that suspect it arent like the people suspecting the moon landing we are talking about numbers on a race track not leaving the planet.
for me i never really suspected the times the nissan posted, but i do see why people suspect the time
nissan did not just get going, the first generation GTR (skyline gtr) came out in 1969 while the vette made it debut in 1953, just 15 years before the GTR, F.Y.I the current corvette is the 6th generation (hence the nick name C6) not the 10th-12th, 15 years is a long time but while nissan went to all whee drive for the track the vette has always been rear wheel drive, nissan went to modular engines while GM stuck with pushrod, Nissan is using twin-turbos while gm is using a roots type supercharger
and whats the point in having a automated launch control or traction control switch if it could break by using it, and void the warranty in the process??? My dad ha a 97′Camaro Z28 which people call a “poor mans vette” has the traction control switch on his car, and to this day it still works like it did when he bought it, and it has never voided his warranty (not that he has one anymore)
overall i am a chevy guy, i know there flaws, but i also know their strenghts, and the GTR is the only japanese car id ever consider owning,though if given the choice id take a ZR1 anyday (actually i’d take the Z51 too) over a GTR, but i dont go around trashing GTR’s cause i like corvette’s more, but everywhere i go and see this discussion more GTR lovers immediatly start trashing the ZR1, then american car lovers trashing the GTR, and from what i have been seeing so far the vette fans only start trashing the GTR cause a GTR lover started trashing the vette. all anybody is doing is being ignorant and immature. these are both great cars, but they are in different classes
I love all the handling arguments…yet the ZR1 scores good on the skid pad…and….this is THE handling track. The GTR, designed ground up as a super handling machine, with launch control, all the computer help it can get….lost on a handling track, to a car that supposedly can’t turn.
Yes it’s not super handling….but that’s also why the ZR1 doesn’t cost 300,000.
Also….GTR’s launch control blows trannies, and using it voids your warranties.
having got both of them, and a C4 ZR-1, the ‘vette gets more looks around town, sounds nicer, and gets pulled over for speeding more. The GT-R however people take one look, maybe look back later, but they leave.but it doesent get pulled over as much, or the local populace asking you to rev it in public.
on track though, take the GT-R, it is much easier too extract a decent laptime from.
on favoured B roads, however, the vette simply conquers, until you push too hard and have to speak to your insurance company. 60 into a
signpost, and the police wern’t half annoyed. good thing the C4 is made of fiberglass, you can fix body damage yourself.

when you take delivery of your GT-R, you have to sign a form stating your warranty is invalidated, so its not like you don’t know.

Don’t really care about the growl from the engine, both cars look awesome, but would still rather race and own the GTR, as the corvette is a loud, showwy american car and i wouls rather avoid the stigma of that vehicle being in my posession. Gtr still goes like sh1t off a stick but is also appropriate for professional and social functions.
The ZR1 is obviously more fun. Japanese cars for the most part don’t do fun, especially like the Datsun and completely drive themselves. And it’s faster too!

THE VETTE REALLY SUCKS,ITS LIKE A MUSCLE DUDE WITHOUT A BRAIN.THE NISSAN ONLY HAS A V6TURBO AND IT CAN KEEP UP WITH THE VETTE BESIDES PUT THAT CRAZY LOUD ANNOYING HEADACHE VETTE ON A RAIN,SNOW,OR DIRT LETS SEE WHO THE REAL CAR IS AND HAVE FUN.
Let me educate some guys here ok: first the vette its known to be tail happy looking for a tree or another car to hit and some guys here think its fun!guys do not drive this car on a bad weather its unstable enough on the dry.This car seats only two people total with a small trunk for your bestfriend unless he’s your? Then we have the loud supercharged V8 its loud because its having a hard time like a guy pushing to hard screaming. Now we have the NISSAN GTR V6 turbo only that moves like the vette except without the screaming of man using the bathroom resolting in a nice quiet smooth handling ride. This car can ride you,a bestfriend,and both girlfriends to the beach along with your cooler,towel,and ect because this thing has a regular size trunk and a 4WD. try that on a vette.So basically you can have fun with your friends driving on a wet,snow,dirt,or pave on the GTR while you can hear yourselves enjoying the drive.BOTTOM LINE IT SEATS 4 IT HANDLES BETTER ON ANY ROAD CONDITIONS THANKS TO IT’S ALL WHEEL DRIVE ITS JUST AS FAST AND IT DIDN’T HAVE TO BE A V8 TO MOVE LIKE ONE,IMAGINE IF NISSAN GTR USES THEIR V8 AND SUPERCHARGE IT CHEVY MIGHT FILE BANKRUPCY ONCE AGAIN.
Okay. Time for a little clarity. Without any bias, yes. The GTR is easier to drive. So what? The ZR1 is not just a computer. It is an automobile. A machine designed for this kind of punishment. No one here could possibly come anywhere close to the times put up in these videos. In either car. So. Which one would you rather drive? The car that allows you to shut your mouth, put your pedal down and drive the thing? Or the one that is constantly limiting your ability… Or lack thereof. The ZR1 is an incredible piece of driving machinery. That is what counts here. If you can’t handle that, it is your fault, not the cars.
