Ok, so it’s a bit of a dry video, but this is apparently the BMW X6 ‘M’ on the track. Is this an exercise in making a marginally pointless car slightly more pointless? I don’t know – and that’s a surprise because I drive one… thanks to Traff for the heads-up!

All I can say is ‘NO NEED’. Other than yourself Tom I don’t know who else has got an X6 as I’ve never seen one on the roads, who’s actually going to buy an X6 M?

The annoying thing is that this is probably going to drive very well indeed whilst remaining pretty pointless. I’m staying sane by thinking of it as a testbad for putting the transmission into smaller, more useable vehicles later on..

Everyone is so harsh on the X6, and I for one think it is a fabulous and striking looking car, well worth losing vision through the rear window for. Surely Tom, having one yourself you are slowly beginning to understand this car’s design, and possibly starting to like it?

That is without doubt the worst looking, most anti-social most utterly pointless car I’ve ever seen in my life and the mere sight of it irritates me no end. Plus the only reason it exists can be summed up in one or two words: Mercedes ML63.
It’s also badly timed and a huge penis exstension. I’ve only seen one X6 before, a grey V8 with rediculous wheels. It resembled a jumbled up picture of an angry hippo!
Something’s wrong with BMW at the moment if they think that that monstrosity can be justified.
Just to clarify, the penis bit referred to the M. I didn’t mean to imply anything about any TG folk who might drive an X6.
And I suppose if BMW lowered it and turned it into a saloon, it wouldn’t be as silly looking, with a new roof and tail-lights.
I plain don’t get it. I can’t understand why you’d by an X6 M rather than an M6. Then again I don’t understand why you’d buy an M6 when you could get a debadged M5 touring for a damn sight less money, but then I like Q-car appeal. It’s all a bit pointless for another more pressing reason though, I haven’t got the money to buy a matchbox model of one at the moment…
Their is no point bringing out the X6M and the X5M because noone will buy them and the cars are good enough already.
The X6 and the X5 are already good enough.But why would youbuy an X5M and a X6M over a Q7,Q5 or even a BMW M3,M5 OR AND M6.
Guys please cool down who said we who live the potholed 3rd world countries cannot drive cars like the X6M, Cayenne Turbo S. We can have the Ferraris, Lambos, Austin and The RANGE ROVER is damn ugly breaks down and rattles after a 20000km on bad roads.
BUY the way the Cayenne is soo UGLY but its sells (40% of Porshe sells) and i bet the X6M and X5M will sell well the M5, M6

Hmmmmm about the x6. I dont know it’s a car that doesnt have any purpose other than itself. you buy a x6 just to have fun with it. I’d prefer mercedes or VW because as I saw in the NCAP site, the BMW’s have very poor safety overall. Id rather be on a bit slower but much safer car. —see the new mercedes E and C class—, as for VW, i think it’s the best car ever, its practical, quick, reliable, economic, “greeeeeeeen” etc.(I’m not talking about Tourans, Sharans and these kind of “minivans”

This “car” is only bought by cocks who don’t like getting muddy, but do like talking marketing and buying Starbucks – so what is the point of a car that looks like an off-roader even though it can’t go off road. Utter pointless.

I don’t think it’s SUCH a bad looking car. They’re really nice in black. Not sure how well it did on the track – can anyone tell me coz it wouldn’t load.

@J.Stevens – I know why you wouldn’t buy an M6 over this. The X6M has more space for kids, dogs, luggage and whatever else. I heard from a friend that you can get 3 bicycles and 5 people in an X6.
Now I know that an M6 is roughly the same size as our 3 series because I have seen one in a showroom. We can’t get two bikes in our car, let alone three! I can sort of see the point.
@Jamster – I suppose that yes, the X5 and X6 are already powerful enough, but hey, why not? People will buy them, BMW will make more money, so I would keep your nose out.

People bang on about the X6 being pointless but if you think about it there is no ‘point’ in buying anything more than a fiat panda, it has 4 doors, 4 seats and a boot: the same as a Maserati Quattroporte, Bentley Flying Spur etc but people still buy them. Besides, if you still see no point in it then it was once said that ‘art ought to have no function and should it have function it is not art’ Figure that one out!
Might I add that the X6 is a cool looking car and I know someone who has one and who isn’t Tom Ford.

add me to the list – already have my deposit on the x6m ………. first time i saw it thought it was ugly – got a test drive for the weekend and i love it …….. think it looks good too. as for the green side of things – well its only a matter of time before these sort of cars are irrelevant so i think i’ll enjoy them before they are either extinct like the dinosaurs or i’m not allowed to for fear of offending the greens and jealousy parties ….. roll on delivery day woop woop

Not the M version but the 3.0d version offcourse.
It’s not a practical car, but if you live in a country like Belgium where “status” is important, than this is the car you need to buy!

After that “brilliant” showing of the X6 in the field (vulgo: “off-road”), I think it would be interesting to see how he performs in comparisson with a car made for “off-road” use: the Citroen 2CV!
I wouldn’t be surprised if the 2CV would go where no X6 would ever be able to go
i for my self have one, iv’e i see around a lot of people here who have one because they can afford one. A great car. Very safe ( and i know it) with a road condition i never experienced with a suv.
The only thing what your are bordering is that you don’t like BMW but always are surprised of the quality of it.
