So maybe not to the average punter, but this ‘Area Denial System’ has been certified for use in Iraq.

Basically a giant microwave transmitter that you can aim, the ADS causes you to think your skin is ‘on fire’ but doesn’t do any lasting damage. Great for crowd control where lobbing a load of tear gas at a crowd can be hazardous to the community as a whole. Still pretty scary though – go to dailytech.com for the full story…

these should be used to control crowds at footy matches, that’ll teach hooligans not to cause trouble!
I wonder if it goes bing when its finished???
so it even cooks you.
is this an American idea?
a drivable microwave is just their style
I remember this thing from one of the Command and Conquer games. You can cook a full turkey from a range of 6 miles.
when you get your hummer make shore to spec it with a microwave canon
It was in R&D for quite a few years.
Does it do popcorn? You could ask your victim to hold onto a bag for you while it’s nuked. Thing is, is it done when they drop dead, or do you take it off them before then in case it burns, and oh, get them to turn it around so the edges don’t get burned.
Unbelievable. What will the yanks think of next to hurt people? Oh yeah, they already did it, Jazz!
How can it not do any lasting damage??? Microwaves heat water patricles in your body, that thing COOKS you alive!! madness, uttermost madness
could it fry a speed camera?
just a thought…
the news feed says “doesn’t do any lasting Damage”. So, what is the short damage?
According to the stats, the microwave beam is supposed to penetrate the skin to the depth of something like 0.6mm, just enough to hit the nerve endings in the skin. They’ve been testing this for years and apparently out of over 10,000 tests, they’ve had a total of 8 injuries, 2 of which were second degree burns.
Still wouldnt want hit by it though, though it is a remarkably clever invention.
As for the damage it does, it’s been likened to touching a hot light bulb.
I suppose the short term damage is some element of your body resonating highly enough for it to feel like you are being burned alive.
(They took this game off Command and Conquer!)
If oyu cover your body in aluminum foil, will you be immune?
