So, I’m off to drive the new Ferrari California this week. What do we think?

It’s a new Ferrari and I’m excited. But I’m yet to see it in the metal, and there seems to be an awful lot of stuff going on design-wise. Probably to cope with the 15-second hard-top and subsequent fat bum.
What’s the general opinion from the real world; do we love it, or do we loathe the way it looks?

I think it looks *ookin awesome! Im just worried it might become a footballers car..
At the moment I’m thinking it looks lovely with the roof up, slightly less so with it folded.
I just can’t stop thinking about Schumacher saying “Bonjourno Tutti” in his teutonic lilt at the start of the California Video…. I think it may dirupt my sleep patterns later on.
Ferrari have finnaly made a car that looks superb. But then again this is my opinion, it’s still gonna be jam-packed with 50 years of ferrari racing ‘now-how’.
The only parts of this car that look good are taken from the Alpha 8C
The front of it looks like a vapid, face lifted trophy wife.. but that’s ok, it’ll match the wives of the target market..
I think I’m jealous.
I’m usually more of a Lambo girl, but the more I look at the California, the more I like it. I like its curves and I don’t mind that it has a bit of a lumpy arse cos I have one of those too
The weird thing is I don’t know WHY I like it. But I’ll never get to drive one, so I don’t care.
“So, I’m off to drive the new Ferrari California this week. What do we think?”
…i hate you. i want your job. give me your job.
please?
The best looking ferrari in a while… but no soft-top? It needs one. Badly.
people you do not know anything about cars come on the so called Ferrari California. Looks like a Porsche designer designed it for them. I think ferrari are loseing there touch. TOM TG this is not a superb car the F360 is the f430 are superb cars this NO. My favorite and the best car Lamborghini have always made the best cars around.
I think it’s beautiful. I don’t give a damn how good it drives because I,ll never get to drive one, ever. But I could stare at it all day.
stunning looking fezza. i love it. my mx-5 roof is faster tho.. lol.
Not enough to get me off a Lambo!
So so so can’t wait till the Spyder version of the Gallardo LP560!
That’ll be immense!!
Chelsea player’s Honda S2000 really.
What a shame

I love the California. It is pretty. Like Keira Knightly in car form. I bet it drives well to
i think judgement is down to personal tase.
me – i hate it……..maybe hate is too strong-a-word, but dislike defintely. Too me this has come to fast from a press leak to actual driving, and a V12 or V10 would have gone lovely under that bonnet and made it a hidden rocket ship
But i think it will be the most user friendly Ferrari to date. i may formulate an opinion when i hear Clarkson’s view, May’s view and Hammond’s view, and take an average
I doubt a V12 would fit, that bonnet is too short and having a V10 would make it more complicated in terms of vibrations which means more engine dampers, more weight, more cost etc. fitting a V8 is the most simplest, cheapest and can easily provide enough power.
I think it looks better in some shots than others. At this point, I’ve pretty much warmed up to the look although from farther back it looks like a mash up between the Alfa 8c and a Granturismo… Still, the only larger issue I have is that the rear end could look a little nicer, perhaps two tailights would be a good start
At the front it looks very beautiful even on the 3/4 views. I don’t like the back; it looks like a Japanese robot and probably has been taken from a Manga. Looks good from the side, roof up or down.
First of all I got to say that I am a huge Ferrari fan. There I said it.
Then moving on… I can’t quite understand why people seem to be allways complaining about the rear end of the new car. The tailpipes are awesome. The classic dual pipes tilted 90 degrees. Yeah! And the single Enzo style rear lights are great touch. It’s same time classic Pininfarina design and something fresh.
Ok, the booty of the car is a bit big, but I am “assman” (<–a man who appreciates asses rather than breasts [not in a gay way!]) and this ass is still pretty sexy (unlike the modern asses of Porsche 911s.
Junaid talked about the manga look, and I think he’s on the right track there. Though I think its manga in a good way (like GTR).
There was heated debate about the car’s appearance upon release of the PR photos, but I like it. Especially in California Blue. It’s unique whilst still being Ferrari-ish, and the arse isn’t too bad. Besides, you can tone it down by putting the roof up (You’ll likely need to with all that blasted rain)
Definitely not seeing the manga-ness, though.
No matter what everyone said on my last comment I think it looks brilliant!!
its got the old school look a lot of u wont see that cos… well its new, but take a long lasting look and ul start 2 c ferrari’s of the 60’s in the gapping front and then the other line’s do go a bit asray but u know them line’s have handling properties. its a fine looking motor that will probly destroy all other cars in it class as usual ! i like but then my fav car looks wise is an f40 so maybe im wrong about the hole thing :L
don’t know what your complaining about with it’s looks it rocks!
Easily Ferrari’s best looking machine since the Enzo. Not that the 599 was a wall flower but it just didn’t grab me the way a Ferrari should. But the California really jumps off the page and makes the 612 look like somthing Chris Bangle got a hold of. Does the idea of a more “softer” Ferrari make sense? The jury’s still out on that one for me, i’ll reserve judgement till i see one in action ( and being a Ferrari it will have to be heard at full wail of course ). To be honest none of this matters cause with Ferrari’s cache being at an all time high, everyone one of these will be bought and paid for before the boys at Maranello even turn the first screw
More of a GT car maby?
God it is gorgeous. Unfortunately and sadly I will never get to drive one… but I can still steal a look. There always has to be softer Ferrari’s, they sell cars in America too you know. Fortunately I live in South Africa… so I’ll have a 599 thanks.
Looks like Ferrari in Bentley Continental territory. A real shame.
Sorry I was drunk…and inspired by a frog’s front end. Or is it face?
Erm, for recent comments, it IS a GT car – a relaxed F430 for the new generation of rich people.
*** it looks as if it is the maserati grandturismo s and it is probebly that since ferari owns maserati.
bfg, it isn’t. It is actually a fair bit smaller.
I don’t like the way it looks. An Aston is much better looking and i bet a DB9 will be cheaper as well….
I suppose it’s looks are a bit of an improvement on the Ferrari 550 / Ferrari 575 which look too much like a Toyota Supra upfront, and sort of lacked that special Ferrari automotive god feeling when you look at them.
I think Ferrari has lost it. I suppose after sometime we will have a Ferrari pick-up or an big SUV,AND A v8 WITH SUCH FIGURES SEEMS LAME, ITS NOT A PROPER FERRARI!
AND FOR PEOPLE SAYING ITS A CAR FOR RICH AND WHAT NOT. WHEN DID A FERRARI EXACTLY BECAME CHEAP???????????????????? ?????????
I think it’s ugly. It’s not up to Ferrarie standards.
Tom,
i can’d decide if the front looks like a masaratti or a olf ferrari 250GTO (the grill etc)..
may just be me, any views??
Nick
p.s think it looks very nice however
im sure it’s a very good car, it looks allright n stylish with the roof up from the front but wtf were they thinking when they designed THAT rear-end! it f**** up the design, back to the drawing board ferrari! awful
This car on my modest opinion should be a maserati instead of Ferrari, sincerly I’d rather get a gallardo spider.
It could be a good car on paper. But with those looks everything is spoiled. Its like the Porsche Cayenne, good car but with those looks it makes me hate it. This is the same story.
The old 250GT California from the 60’s is one of the most beautiful cars ever. Why can’t Ferrari do it now with the new California. If Enzo Ferrari was alive maybe his cars would have more passion, soul and flare. Ferrari’s of now don’t get me excited anymore like the F355 does.
I think it looks brilliant! I still think i would have the 599 gtb because its better performing but the California is indeed better looking. I would totally want to take that on a grand tour across Europe
It looks kind of like a Maserati Granturismo but then again it was also designed by Pininfarina like the granturismo and they both look great
I HOPE FERRARI WILL MAKE A PICK-UP NAMED WASHINGTON D.C.
This car is great and you know, the new Lamborghini is one of the most ugliest cars I have ever seen !
the new gallardo or the new four door concept?
the 599 is better
With the top up it looks like the last generation Toyota Supra. Especially with that sizable gluteus maximus and swooped front end.
The new four door concept …
You can like the California or not. It surley is a super car. Indead it goes back to the ‘60 but after all Ferrari has a tradition; a history which other cars have not.
i love it, it is so cool. btw richard hammond rocks, he is so awesome. my mum even likes him. i am 13. you should come to tassie.
take the aussie version off and bring the british version back please coz the s*ck no offence though.
Ferrari always make the error of initially launching in red and this is a car that does not suit that colour. Having seen it in the flesh in grey, black and blue, it looks fantastic and depite what all the press feared when it was announced, it was obvious it would still be a driver’s car. Ferrari today, with their reputation, simply could not afford to produce anything else.
Just put a deposit of £10K on one but not sure when my name for ordering specs will come up as they haven’t released the amount of cars each dealership will receive. I am about 28th on the list at the dealership I chose. Looks like it will be in a couple of years!
Whay would the right color and what would be the right wheels?
instead of making a soft woofly noise, the California’s V8 screams, In fact it sounds exactly the way you’d hope a Ferrari would. And instead of cranking out 420bhp and topping out at 7000rpm, it kicks out 453bhp and revs to 8000rpm. Nice.
ohhhhh it’s pornography this car. sooooo beautiful amazing cool hope it’s as good a car as it looks
iwill have a used one please anyone find one without side mirrors, seats, windows, boo t lid, dont mind if the wheels are curbed slightly, doors kicked ,burnt or sandblasted paint work
dont care about looks
put on ford fiesta side mirrors
ford fiesta seats with normal seatbelt
will kick the door shut myself
carry my mates back in from the club in the boot
put on the main blog of pauls
cheers james
It looks amazing. That prabably is the best looking ferrari ever made. I really hope that it drives as good as it looks
If there should a contender to the Italion stallion it could be the Zenvo from Denmark. It just look like a killer.. so F###### great!
Judge for yourself.

Hope the to see it in TG..
Cheers
That car IS vulgarity, just as many of her next owners, like Paris Hilton may be….
Poor Ferrari !
My last loved Ferrari: the 355 and may be the 612
But help me go back to the 60’s please !!!
